BE READY

II Timothy 4:2  Tell everyone God’s message. Be ready at all times to do whatever is needed. Tell people what they need to do, tell them when they are doing wrong, and encourage them. Do this with great patience and careful teaching.

Years ago, I was invited to a camp to observe and see if I would like to bring my students to the camp.  I thought, great a week where I have no responsibilities and I can just relax and enjoy myself.  They gave me my own room and encouraged me to just relax, observe and enjoy.  Well as the campers arrived they had some unexpected students show up and they came to me and asked if i would be willing to have a student stay in my room with me (obviously, this was long ago, because you would never allow that now).  Reluctantly I said sure and a student showed up a few minutes later.  We exchanged a little small talk and I was gathering that his reason for coming was to draw closer to some girls and not God.  The first two nights I had to go out hunting for him after lights out and always found him sitting with a girl.  We would head back to the cabin and talk about life and just started to enjoy one another’s company.  The third night, guess what, he didn’t show up again and when I went to find him, he was with a counselor.  I thought he was in trouble but it turns out God had spoken to him and he had made a commitment to God. That night we stayed up late and it was a blessing to hear how God had gotten a hold of him.  Over the next few years, we stayed in touch and would spend time together at camp.  After a few years he became a counselor and our relationship grew.  He eventually entered ministry, became a pastor, and has a powerful ministry in a large church where God uses him in amazing ways.  Over the past 40 years I am proud to say he is one of my dearest friends in Christ and we meet and share God regularly.  What a privilege God gives us if we are just ready when he calls us to just be present.  Be willing to Be Ready for God.  He Will Use YOU!
