Childlike

Luke 18:15-17   People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.  But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

This scripture is such an amazing picture.  Jesus teaching and doing ‘adult’ discipleship. Disciples trying to make sure that he isn’t interrupted in doing ‘ministry’.  Jesus  says to let the children come to him for it is people like these are who the kingdom belong to.  I have heard lots of Bible Studies, sermons on this and  so often they make it so complicated.  The inherit nature of infants is trust and innocence.  The completely believe in their parents.  I remember so many times playing with children and they just have a faith that is pure and not messed up.  I remember Pat as a toddler jumping into my arms in the pool with no fear because I was waiting on him.  Cheri getting a cut and coming to me knowing that I would fix it.  Clare going up a ladder to sit in a tree with me right behind her.  Ellie jumping off the bed into my arms with a wild look of joy knowing I was there to catch her.  In fact, Ellie had a problem of just running and getting on the bed and jumping when I wasn’t really ready.  Jesus knew this about children and said that we need to have the kind of faith if we really want to experience God’s kingdom in complete joy.  When was the last time you had enough faith that you were ready to jump towards God’s arms and know that He will catch you?   Where do you need to have more childlike faith in God?

Tomorrow I am going to follow up on this with the scripture following this and a great contrast to this.
