Romans 8:19-23 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.
I love spending time in God’s creation. Even as I write this, I am sitting on my back deck with the birds singing, a nice gentle breeze swaying trees, and a beautiful sky. They all seem to be singing praise to God. I have been blessed during my life to travel the whole country, and around the world and am amazed at creation. A sun never going down North of the Artic Circle, the crashing waves on a beach, snow covered mountain in their majesty, Grand Canyon, all so different but mind blowing. It is hard for me to see how anyone can possibly say there is not a creator. All you have to do is look at the handwork of his hands. Back to my main point. In Romans it tell us that creation itself has been subjected to the fall, when man fell. It is eagerly waiting, as we should be for God’s liberating work as we move to glory and see the fulness of God’s work. I sit and watch a beautiful sunset, or a majestic mountain, or a simple flower and am reminded that they are fallen. It makes me almost cry to think what a redeemed sunset looks like, or a liberated mountain looks like. We are only seeing a shadow of what God created and someday will see it in it’s fullness. That blows my minds. CS Lewis called it “living in the shadowlands”. Thank god for his handiwork and see him in his creation.
