Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
We always want peace but we don’t always really grasp the concept very well. When we listen to the world around us, peace is a feeling you get when everything is quiet and comfortable in our lives. The truth is that peace is not the absence of troubles and noise but it is the ability to be in the presence of God. In the verse above it is clearly something that is available for us to grasp as Jesus said he is giving you peace (and not like the world’s peace. In Colossians he tells us we were called to peace and when it is present it rules in your heart. No matter what is going on around us, peace is available as long as we let it rule in our hearts. Fear, busyness, circumstances, pride, people and just stuff have a tendency to take peace away because we allow those things to be in control in our hearts. Many times in live I am robbed of peace because of things taking control of my heart. Specifically, I remember a time when I was robbed of peace for a time when someone left me. I felt like I had failed, I kept letting my mind be controlled by thinking about what I could do, how I could fix things. The verses above were shared with me and I remember actively seeking God and spending time in His presence intentionally seeking peace. Jesus, as always was true to his word and he gave me a peace that comforted me and made me know that God is in control. If God has it in his hands he can probably handle it better than me. Doesn’t mean I didn’t grab back things and lose peace, but I learned that the quicker I seek God’s presence, the quicker I can move back into God’s peace that he has for me. Where do you need to seek God’s presence and peace in your life?
