Seeds

Gardening is something that I love to play with.   I’m not very good at it and it is definitely not profitable.  But I just have to be a nerd and say “Seeds are far-out” (Translation of far-out for those who didn’t grow up in the 70’s – rad, extreme, gnarly, groovy, etc.)They have incredible power in such a small thing.  You stick them in the ground and amazing things happen.  It was no accident that Jesus spoke of the kingdom of God being like a seed.  At least three parables are Jesus telling us that when we plant the kingdom of God in our lives we are very productive.  Seeds don’t just grow, they produce Fruit and more seeds.  The amount of production is based on the care of the soil (body we are a part of) and the water (the Word) and other nutrients around us (people).   It all starts with a tiny seed planted within us.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13‬:‭3‬-‭9‬  “And he told them many things in parables, saying: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Let anyone with ears listen!””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13‬:‭31‬-‭32‬ ‭  “He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.””

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭ “In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hands be idle; for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.”
