The Fruit of Faithfulness

Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Over the years I have been so blessed to know many people who I would say surrounded me as a great cloud of witnesses.  People who faithfully lived out their faith around me, shared their journey and encouraged me when I struggled.  Throughout history the importance of a community of faith as we follow Christ is so important.  If we don’t have those around us that we can bounce our beliefs, prayers, crazy ideas and so much more we will wander off on strange paths.  On top of that just the fun, laughter and great memories built are so helpful in dealing with life.  In Hebrews 11 the concept is beautifully laid out and is so bold as to say that the people around us help us to throw of our sings and run with perseverance the life God has called us to.  They help us to fix (not just glacé) our eyes of Christ who is the ultimate witness by being shamed, endured the cross and now sits and prays or us on the throne of God.  Make it a priority to build and maintain relationship with people who call you higher.  It may be difficult at times as they call you out at times but it’s our closest example to Christ when we wander.  For the past 25 years I have been so blessed with a group of 4 people that gather and share our journey, encourage, and challenge my walk.

If you read the rest of Hebrews 12 we get a powerful list of Biblical heroes who can give us encouragement in life.
