Galatians 6:7-10 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Over the years in ministry Youth Force became my favorite camp. Don’t get me wrong I love all the camps I was a part of but at Youth Force we dealt with a reality that can hardly be replicated in a camp setting. From it’s planning to implementation it was about real ministry to people who we were trying to help and always seeing it getting flipped and being blessed so much. I loved working with the city housing department in selecting people who had a real need, it was a great way to share what the love of Christ look like in real terms. Then going to visit the families and determining need and whether we could help them was so amazing. We heard story upon story of lives that had hit hard times and many stories of faith as they shared their journey and how God was with them. Sometimes we would meet families that were not believers and it was like an open door to share the gospel and see what Christian love can really look like. When we made a decision to work on their home over and over they couldn’t believe that students were paying for and doing the work. Many of them were scared whether it would really happen but had to hope and pray it would. Then students would arrive and the energy soared. The anticipation that first evening and then actually heading to sites and having face to face with the families was amazing. Over the next few days as the work went on, the devotions happened, meals were shared and a whole lot of improvement happened we saw families and students hears learn what goodness and love looked like. Evenings at worship were not like worship anywhere else because we didn’t have to do any work to prep people to give thanks. They were experiencing it in real life as they invested their lives in others. In the midst of it the kindness that took place was the key to changed homes and lives. I thank God for the opportunity to serve and reminded that as the scripture says: Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Are you looking for opportunities to do good? They are out there, so many places.
