1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
When I left my Student Ministry job in Lawton, Cecelia and I decided that we would move to OKC so we could be close to all the kids and grandkids. Having lived in Lawton a long time we couldn’t just jump up and go and selling our house was a big part of it. It took several months of pretty h work to remodel the house and bring it to its value. We finally got it done and put it on the market. We felt good about the price we set and started having an agent show it. There was a lot of interest with its unique setting and beautiful location. It was showing almost daily and everyone gave the comment that they loved it. A lot of offers were made but we would turn them down because we believed we had set a fair value on the house. Many would come with a list of things wrong with the house (which we knew) and try to lower the price. We stayed faithful to our asking price and after about 3 months an offer was made that we felt reflected it’s true value. Even then they tried to negotiate it down but we held firm. The interesting thing was that the person was one of the first people that had looked at it. They finally agreed with the value and we were able to close and make final plans to move to OKC.
It made me think of how Satan works with us. He always wants to have control of you and is constantly telling you that you are not worth that much. He points out you physical shortcomings, he tells you that you need a lot of fixing and generally tries to devalue you. As believers we need to remember that we are made in the image of God and God created us uniquely as we are. Our value is based on what we know to be true in that God made us and even with all our shortcomings He said you were worth it to the point of dying on the cross to validate your value to Him. We are more precious to God than his angels. When people, Satan or your own mind tells you that you aren’t good enough, remember the creator, sustainer and Savior of the universe thinks you are valuable.
