Revelation 7:9-12 “After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands; and they cry with a great voice, saying, Salvation unto our God who sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb. And all the angels were standing round about the throne, and about the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”
I always love this image of a glimpse into heaven at worship. I have been blessed over my lifetime to experience life changing, out of this world worship experiences. So many leave images and feelings I still reflect on today. One of those times was when I was asked to run sound for a service for a tribal chieftain who had passed away. I didn’t expect anything as I was just running sound. As the worship began to wind down they began singing the old standard “Amazing Grace” (One of my favorites). After a couple of verses they began to just play it in the background. Suddenly a strange voice rang out and I realized that a group from a different tribe was singing the song in their native tongue. It was beautiful! But, that wasn’t the end. Over the next few minutes each tribe represented there, stood and sang in their native tongue. It ended up being 9-10 different tongues and was breathtaking. The verse from revelation came to mind and my mind was blown as I thought about the limits I had put on God, thinking we all joined together and would sing in English praising God. It says though that out of every nation, tribes, people and tongues (and joined by the angels, who I can’t even how they might sound). They cry with a great voice together praising God. Talk about worship!
